Blood Collection

Many routine laboratory tests require a blood sample to be taken

Typical routine blood tests look at the complete blood count of red and white blood cells and measure your haemoglobin levels and other blood components. These tests can detect anaemia, infection, and even cancer of the blood.

Another common blood test is the basic metabolic panel to check heart, kidney, and liver function by looking at your blood glucose, calcium, and electrolyte levels. To check for heart disease risk, a lipoprotein panel may be used to measure levels of fats in the blood, like good cholesterol (HDL), bad cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides.

A full understanding of blood test results can also help make good decisions about diet and lifestyle.

Home blood sampling is also becoming increasingly used for numerous screening and diagnostic assessments.

Blood Collection Solutions

Blood samples can be collected from blood vessels (capillaries, veins, and sometimes arteries) by trained phlebotomists or medical personnel. The sample is obtained by needle puncture and withdrawn by suction through the needle into a special collection tube.

Capillary blood samples can also be collected by the patient themselves, at home, and returned to the clinic, laboratory or GP for testing
